Reflection: For the discovering light assignment, I set up a DIY studio in my garage and the project of shooting the image took me several days. It was challenging, to say the least, but thoroughly enjoyable attempting to puzzle the right settings into place to get the image.
The most challenging shot was the light painting and, if I’m being honest, I’m not sure I did it correctly, though I followed instructions. I didn’t have a laser pointer, but I used a flashlight to direct the light. I found that no matter how long my shutter speed, I couldn’t get the effect I was going for, which makes me wonder if my “studio” just wasn’t set up right.
I used an air-condition filter for a light diffuser and it actually brought out more texture than the shot I set up for texture. An additional bonus to this exercise is how much more I learned about my camera and it’s settings, shortcuts for setting white balance and so forth. I like the studio experience and am looking forward to the still life project this weekend.
