Reflection: This assignment was much harder than I anticipated. First, I set myself the task of shooting on the same day my wife and I were hosting Thanksgiving, which in hindsight proved a poor choice on my part. I was so scattered that my shots were rushed and haphazard. In the end, I didn’t have an essay as much about a single person as I would’ve liked, but more about the day as it evolved.
I believe the basics are there for the essay, an establishing shot along with elements, objects and characters that evolved throughout the day, ending with a photo of it all packed up and put away.
That said, I’ll do this entirely differently next time. My job on the day should’ve been to just shoot, not host, cook and shoot. Though I had an idea of who and how I wanted to shoot, I assumed it’d be easy to accomplish in the one day we had here and that just didn’t pan out at all. At no point was I able to melt into the background with the camera.
Honestly, this assignment doesn’t reflect my best work and planning. It’s a bit upsetting, though I can’t say I didn’t learn a lesson in how to approach this better.
